Maiden Erlegh Trust Heads of PE Launch Inter-Trust Sports Programme
We are delighted to launch the Inter-School Sports Programme — a series of sports activities and events designed by our Heads of PE for all our schools, and every one of our students.
Inclusive and in support of our values
The programme offers varied and inclusive sporting experiences, giving every student the opportunity to take part, build confidence, develop skills, and feel part of our wider community. Events are designed to strengthen connections across our schools and local communities, and our values — Aim High, Be Inclusive, Work Together — will be embedded into every event. Awards will recognise teamwork, participation, leadership and effort.
Planned sports
Planned sports include football, ultimate frisbee, soft archery, lacrosse, rugby, cross country, rowing, duathlon, climbing, orienteering, basketball, badminton, netball, gymnastics, yoga, mindfulness, athletics, rounders, softball and more.
Varied programme and opportunities for personal development
The programme offers varied and inclusive sporting experiences, giving every student, whatever their starting point, the chance to take part, build confidence, develop skills, and feel part of our wider community.
Throughout the year, secondary students will also develop leadership skills by supporting events, refereeing, marshalling, photographing, and assisting at primary school sports days. This creates valuable leadership experiences and further strengthens connections across MET.
The first two events
-
Fran Kirby Girls Football Tournament — Monday 31 March at Maiden Erlegh Chiltern Edge. Year 7 girls will compete in this 9-a-side tournament supported by MECE alumna Fran Kirby (more below).
-
Badminton Tournament — Tuesday 1 April at River Academy. Students from across MET will compete in singles and doubles matches, showcasing their skills and teamwork.
The Fran Kirby Girls Football Tournament
Our launch event — the Fran Kirby Girls Football Tournament — will take place on Monday 31 March at Maiden Erlegh Chiltern Edge. Year 7 girls from across MET will compete in a 9-a-side tournament named in recognition of MECE alumna Fran Kirby, professional footballer and England Lioness. Fran has earned over 70 caps for England and is a UEFA Women’s Champions League winner with Chelsea FC.
To support this special event, Fran Kirby is sending the Director of FK14 Girls Development Centre — the local football development centre founded in her name — who also represents local Nike-supported football camps. We hope this involvement will provide inspiration for our students.
